Duje Cop gave Gijon the lead in just 14 minutes, before they were pegged back by Madrid and Isco.
The two sides went into the break level before Mikel Vesga found the back of the net in 50 minutes, to put the home side ahead once again.
But Madrid found an equaliser through Alvaro Morata less than 10 minutes later. Gijon looked good value for a draw, and deserved exactly that, as the game fizzled out.
